Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 22/09/2026

Welcome to Birth Perspective.

These Terms & Conditions explain the basis on which Birth Perspective provides its services. Please read them carefully before making a booking.

By booking a Birth Perspective service, you confirm that you have read and agree to these Terms & Conditions.

1. About Birth Perspective

Birth Perspective provides personalised midwifery consultations, education, information and birth-preference support.

Our services are delivered by registered midwives with experience working within NHS maternity services.

Birth Perspective is an independent service and is not part of, affiliated with or endorsed by the NHS or your NHS Trust unless expressly stated otherwise.

Birth Perspective does not replace your NHS maternity care.

Our service is designed to complement the care you receive from your maternity team by giving you additional time to explore your questions, understand different birth pathways and consider what matters to you.

2. Our services

Birth Perspective may offer services including:

  • The Birth Perspective Journey

  • Early Pregnancy Perspective consultations

  • Mid-Pregnancy Perspective consultations

  • One-off Birth Perspective consultations

  • Consultations following a change in pregnancy or birth circumstances

  • Induction of labour discussions

  • Birth-preference consultations

  • Discussions around planned vaginal or caesarean birth

  • Personalised information packs

  • Personalised Birth Perspective birth-preference documents

  • Birth Boxes and related products or hire services

The exact inclusions and price of your service will be displayed at the time of booking.

3. What our consultations provide

Birth Perspective consultations give you dedicated time with an experienced midwife to explore pregnancy, birth and maternity-care topics relevant to you.

Depending on your service, we may discuss:

  • Birth preferences

  • Place of birth

  • Birth-centre and labour-ward environments

  • Pain-relief options

  • Induction of labour

  • Monitoring during labour

  • Assisted vaginal birth

  • Caesarean birth

  • Birth partners

  • Birth environment

  • Communication and decision-making

  • Different possible birth pathways

  • How NHS maternity services may work in practice

  • Preparing for circumstances in which your original plans change

We aim to provide balanced, evidence-informed information and practical insight based on professional midwifery experience.

4. Birth Perspective is not an emergency service

Birth Perspective does not provide emergency or urgent maternity assessment.

Please do not use Birth Perspective to seek urgent advice about your health, pregnancy, labour or baby's wellbeing.

If you experience symptoms or have concerns requiring clinical assessment, you should contact your own maternity service, maternity triage, GP, NHS 111 or emergency services as appropriate.

This includes concerns such as reduced or changed fetal movements, bleeding, possible labour, possible rupture of membranes, significant pain, feeling acutely unwell or any other concern about your health or your baby's wellbeing.

Do not wait for a response from Birth Perspective before seeking appropriate clinical care.

5. Clinical decisions and medical advice

Birth Perspective provides midwifery information, education and support within the scope of the service booked.

We do not replace the healthcare professionals responsible for your ongoing maternity care.

We do not guarantee that any particular treatment, intervention, place of birth or birth preference will be clinically appropriate or available to you.

Your NHS maternity team or other healthcare professionals remain responsible for clinical assessments, diagnoses, treatment recommendations and decisions relating to your ongoing clinical care.

Where something discussed during a Birth Perspective consultation may require individual clinical assessment or a decision by your maternity team, we may recommend that you discuss it directly with them.

6. Your birth preferences

Birth Perspective may help you explore, develop and document your birth preferences.

A birth-preference document records what is important to you and can support conversations with the professionals caring for you.

However, birth cannot always be predicted.

Your preferences may need to change depending on your circumstances, your baby's wellbeing, your choices at the time, available services and recommendations from the professionals responsible for your care.

Birth Perspective cannot guarantee that your birth will happen in accordance with your birth preferences.

One of the aims of our service is to help you prepare for different possibilities while retaining focus on the things that matter most to you.

7. Your personalised Birth Perspective document

Where included in your service, we will create a personalised Birth Perspective birth-preference document following your consultations.

You will have the opportunity to review the information included and should tell us promptly if anything is inaccurate or you would like something amended.

Your document may be provided digitally and, where available, through a QR code.

The document is intended to help communicate your preferences.

It does not form part of your NHS maternity record unless your maternity service chooses to incorporate or record information from it.

You are responsible for deciding whether and with whom you share your Birth Perspective document or QR code.

8. Information packs

Depending on your service, we may send personalised information following your consultation.

These resources are intended to help you explore relevant subjects further and may include statistics, research, professional guidance and links to reliable sources.

Information may change over time as evidence, professional guidance and maternity services develop.

Information provided by Birth Perspective should therefore not be used as a substitute for individual clinical assessment or advice from the healthcare professionals responsible for your care.

9. NHS maternity services

Our midwives' experience working within NHS maternity services allows us to help clients understand how different maternity environments and pathways may operate in practice.

However, NHS Trusts and maternity services differ.

Policies, pathways, staffing, facilities, eligibility criteria and service availability may vary between hospitals and may change.

We therefore cannot guarantee that the processes discussed during your consultation will operate in exactly the same way at your particular maternity service.

Where hospital-specific information is important, we may encourage you to confirm this directly with your maternity team.

10. Your responsibilities

To help us provide a safe and personalised service, we ask that you:

  • Provide information that is accurate to the best of your knowledge

  • Tell us about relevant changes to your pregnancy or circumstances

  • Attend appointments at the agreed time

  • Ask questions if anything discussed is unclear

  • Continue attending your routine NHS or other maternity appointments

  • Discuss individual clinical decisions with the healthcare professionals responsible for your care

  • Seek urgent assessment from the appropriate healthcare service when required

You are not expected to understand medical terminology or provide your entire maternity record.

11. Appointments

Appointments may be provided:

  • In person within selected areas

  • Online by video consultation

  • Through another format expressly agreed in advance

Appointment length will be stated when you book.

Please make every reasonable effort to be available at the agreed time.

If you are late, we may not always be able to extend the appointment because another client may be booked afterwards.

12. The Birth Perspective Journey

Where you book the Birth Perspective Journey, this will ordinarily include two consultations.

We generally recommend the first consultation at approximately 30–34 weeks and the second at approximately 2 weeks after, although timings can be adjusted according to your individual circumstances and availability.

Following your first consultation, you may receive personalised information to review before your second appointment.

Following your second consultation, we will prepare your final Birth Perspective birth-preference document where this is included within your package.

13. Changes during pregnancy

Pregnancy circumstances can change.

If your circumstances change between consultations — for example, you are offered an induction, your planned place of birth changes or a caesarean birth is being considered — please tell us.

Where appropriate, we can adapt your consultation to focus on your new circumstances.

A change in your pregnancy does not mean that your Birth Perspective service needs to be cancelled.

14. Prices and payment

The price applicable to your service will be displayed at the time of booking.

Unless otherwise agreed, payment is required to confirm your booking.

Prices may change from time to time, but changes will not affect a booking that has already been confirmed unless you agree otherwise or the law permits it.

Any optional additional services, such as printing, laminating, postage or Birth Box hire, will be clearly priced separately.

15. Your right to cancel

Where you book a service online, by telephone or otherwise at a distance, you may have a legal right to cancel your contract within 14 days without giving a reason.

Your cancellation period generally begins when the contract is entered into.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory consumer rights.

If you ask us to provide a service during the 14-day cancellation period, we may ask you to expressly request that the service begins before the cancellation period has expired.

If you then cancel after we have begun providing the service at your request, you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for services already supplied, where permitted by law.

Where the service has been fully performed during the cancellation period at your express request and you have acknowledged that you will lose your cancellation right once the service has been fully performed, your statutory right to cancel may end.

Further cancellation information will be provided during the booking process where required.

16. Rescheduling and cancellation after the statutory cancellation period

We understand that pregnancy can be unpredictable.

If you need to move an appointment, please contact us as soon as possible.

Our standard policy is:

More than 48 hours' notice

We will normally allow you to reschedule without an additional charge.

Less than 48 hours' notice

A reasonable rescheduling or cancellation charge may apply to reflect costs and time that cannot reasonably be recovered.

Urgent maternity circumstances

If you need to cancel or reschedule because you have gone into labour, have been admitted to hospital or experience another significant pregnancy-related circumstance, please contact us when reasonably possible.

We will consider these situations individually and aim to act reasonably and compassionately.

Any cancellation charge will comply with your statutory rights and applicable consumer law.

17. If Birth Perspective needs to cancel

Occasionally, illness, NHS work commitments, emergencies or circumstances outside our reasonable control may mean that a midwife cannot attend an appointment.

Where possible, we will offer:

  • An alternative appointment with the same midwife

  • An appointment with another suitable Birth Perspective midwife

  • Another reasonable alternative agreed with you

If we cannot provide the service you have paid for and no suitable alternative can be agreed, we will refund the appropriate amount for the service not provided.

18. Midwife allocation

Birth Perspective may allocate a midwife based on factors including:

  • Your location

  • Availability

  • Your maternity service

  • The nature of your consultation

  • Relevant experience

We will try to maintain continuity where possible, particularly for the Birth Perspective Journey.

However, we cannot guarantee that the same midwife will always be available.

If your original midwife becomes unavailable, we may offer another appropriately qualified Birth Perspective midwife.

19. Professional standards

Birth Perspective consultations delivered as midwifery practice will be provided by appropriately registered midwives.

Our midwives are expected to practise within their professional scope and applicable professional standards.

Where appropriate, Birth Perspective midwives will maintain professional indemnity arrangements relevant to the work they undertake.

Each midwife is registered to the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and their unique personal identification number can be provided upon request.

20. Confidentiality and personal information

We take your privacy seriously.

Pregnancy and health information is sensitive personal information and will be handled in accordance with applicable data-protection law.

Please read our Privacy Policy for information about:

  • What information we collect

  • Why we collect it

  • How we use and store it

  • Who it may be shared with

  • How long it may be retained

  • Your data-protection rights

[PRIVACY POLICY]

21. Communication

Birth Perspective may communicate with you by email, telephone, text message or another communication method agreed with you.

Email and messaging should not be used to seek urgent clinical advice.

Messages received outside our working hours may not be reviewed immediately.

22. Birth Boxes

Where you purchase or hire a Birth Perspective Birth Box, additional terms may apply.

Your Birth Box may contain a combination of:

  • Single-use products

  • Reusable products

  • Items intended for comfort or creating your birth environment

Instructions relating to appropriate use, cleaning, return and disposal will be provided where necessary.

Single-use items must not be reused.

Where reusable items are supplied, Birth Perspective will have appropriate processes for cleaning, decontamination and/or replacement according to the nature of the item and manufacturer's instructions.

No item should be used if packaging is damaged, the item appears compromised or its use would be contrary to professional or manufacturer guidance.

Clients should follow any instructions supplied with the Birth Box.

Separate hire terms may apply to reusable items, including return dates, loss or damage.

23. Printed and laminated birth preferences

Where available, you may choose to purchase a printed and/or laminated version of your final Birth Perspective document.

You are responsible for checking and approving the final document before printing where approval is requested.

Postage times are estimates and Birth Perspective cannot guarantee delivery by a particular date where delays are outside our reasonable control.

This does not affect your statutory rights.

24. Intellectual property

The Birth Perspective name, branding, consultation materials, information packs, templates, guides and other original materials belong to Birth Perspective or are used with appropriate permission.

Materials supplied to you are for your own personal use in connection with your pregnancy and birth.

You may share your personal Birth Perspective birth-preference document with the healthcare professionals involved in your care.

Other Birth Perspective materials should not be copied, sold, published or commercially distributed without our permission.

25. Feedback and testimonials

We may invite you to tell us about your experience of Birth Perspective and, if you wish, how your birth went.

Providing feedback is entirely optional.

We will not publish an identifiable testimonial, birth story, photograph or other personal information for marketing purposes without an appropriate lawful basis and, where required, your permission.

Choosing not to provide a testimonial will have no effect on the service you receive.

26. Our responsibility to you

Birth Perspective will provide its services with reasonable care and skill.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits any responsibility that cannot legally be excluded or limited, including your statutory consumer rights.

Birth Perspective cannot guarantee a particular pregnancy, labour, birth or clinical outcome.

We are not responsible for decisions independently made by NHS organisations, hospitals or other healthcare professionals, or for the availability of particular maternity services, where these matters are outside Birth Perspective's control.

27. Complaints

We want you to feel comfortable raising concerns with us.

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your Birth Perspective experience, please contact:

Email: hello@birthperspective.co.uk

We will acknowledge your concern and aim to deal with it fairly and promptly in accordance with our complaints procedure.

Information about escalating concerns relating to a registered midwife's professional practice can be provided where appropriate.

28. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

The version applicable to your booking will normally be the version in effect when your booking was made, unless a change is required by law or you agree otherwise.

29. Governing law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Nothing in these Terms affects any mandatory consumer rights you may have regarding where legal proceedings can be brought.
