My midwifery experience
BSc (Hons) in Midwifery with Registration as a Midwife, King’s College London
I have worked across NHS maternity services for 7 years at a busy Central London hospital, with experience in antenatal care, triage, labour ward and postnatal care. I currently work as a labour ward co-ordinator on an obstetric led unit.
A particular passion of mine is caring for women whose pregnancies or births have become more complex or high-risk. When circumstances change, it can sometimes feel as though the birth you had imagined is changing with them.
I believe that good communication is one of the most important parts of maternity care.
Understanding what is happening, why something is being recommended and what your options are can make such a difference to how you feel about your care. Even when additional monitoring or intervention becomes necessary, there should still be space for your questions, preferences and the things that matter most to you.
Working on a busy labour ward has given me a real understanding of how NHS maternity services work — including the decisions that may need to be made, how care can change during labour and the realities of an obstetric-led environment.
Why Birth Perspective?
As a Labour Ward Coordinator, I regularly support women whose pregnancies or births have become more complex than they expected.
I see how quickly recommendations can change and how overwhelming maternity terminology, monitoring and interventions can sometimes feel.
For me, communication is key. Women deserve to understand what is happening, why something is being recommended and what choices or preferences they may still have.
Birth Perspective gives me the opportunity to have those conversations without the time pressures of a busy labour ward.
I want women to feel prepared for different possibilities — not frightened by them — and confident asking questions if their care changes.
Outside of midwifery
When I'm not working, you'll often find me running or keeping active. Fitness is a big part of my life and I've even completed a marathon — although I still enjoy getting out for a run without quite so many miles involved!
I also love spending time with friends and making the most of my time away from the labour ward.
