My midwifery experience

BSc (Hons) in Midwifery with Registration as a Midwife, King’s College London

I have worked across NHS maternity services for 6 years at a busy Central London hospital, with experience in antenatal care, triage, labour ward and postnatal care.

Working in maternity triage — a little like the maternity version of A&E — means I meet women who come in with all kinds of questions and concerns, often when they're feeling worried or unsure about what happens next. Clear, reassuring communication is something I'm particularly passionate about, and I believe understanding what is happening and why can make such a difference to how women experience their care.

I also work on the labour ward, supporting women through both straightforward and more complex births. I love being able to bring warmth and positivity into the room — you'll very rarely find me without a smile on my face!

Why Birth Perspective?

I'm also mum to my two-year-old son, and my own birth gave me a very personal perspective on what it feels like when circumstances change quickly. Following an emergency during labour, my son was born by caesarean section. Experiencing this myself reinforced how important communication, reassurance and feeling involved in your care can be, particularly when events move quickly and the birth you had imagined suddenly looks very different.

Birth Perspective gives me the opportunity to help women understand some of those possibilities before they're experiencing them.

For me, it isn't about predicting every eventuality. It's about helping women feel informed, comfortable asking questions and aware that their preferences and voice still matter, even when plans need to change.

Outside of midwifery

When I'm not working, I'm usually kept busy by my two-year-old son! I love spending time with family and friends, getting out and about together and enjoying the fun (and chaos!) that comes with life with a toddler.
